When it first hit the presses, Condie and others had a feeling that it would be successful, but no one could have predicted the prophetic nature of this particular piece of dystopian fiction. You can grab your copy of the Matched series here.It has been a decade since “ Matched ” (2010), a celebrated young adult novel written by Ally Condie, was published. It’s an easy read that’s entertaining and the characters really do make the whole series.

I wouldn’t say I loved the Matched series, but I enjoyed it enough to want to finish it. They’re teenagers and they act like it, making the kinds of mistakes teenagers make. Even the ones you like have moments that make you want to shake them. That’s what I really like about this book. In fact, he’s one of my favourite characters and a few times, I felt myself getting frustrated with Cassia for the way she treats him. One of the main things that struck me as different was that Cassia’s match (the guy you’re meant to root against to some extent) isn’t unlikeable.

While it’s a plot that’s been done a hundred times before, the way it is done in Matched has enough unique concepts and ideas to keep it feeling fresh and new. The series is basically the standard story about a government who has ultimate control and the people who want to take that control back. Having said that, I liked the characters enough to keep going with it which I think is a good indication of the fact that the characters are likeable. The whole book could have been done in less than half of the pages it took and it got a bit tedious. While I enjoyed the Matched series, I did find that the second book dragged on a bit. When they die.īut as Cassia finds herself falling in love with another boy, she is determined to make some choices of her own.Īnd that’s when her whole world begins to unravel … In Cassia’s society, Officials decide who people love. Society dictates he is her perfect partner for life. On her seventeenth birthday, Cassia meets her match. While I will talk about the series as a whole, there won’t be any spoilers and only the blurb from the first book will be included. This month’s book review is the Matched series, a YA series by Ally Condie.
